(ECB Enclosed circuit breakers are major power system circuit breakers. These are very heavy duty, high power Circuit Breakers, designed to manage power fluctuations in major power systems. As the name suggests, they are enclosed, typically in secure cabinets, and they manage entire power systems.)
The general-purpose of Nema 1 enclosed breaker is to provide a degree of protection to personnel against access to hazardous parts and to provide also a degree of protection of the equipment inside the enclosure against ingress of solid foreign objects (falling dirt).
NEMA 12 enclosed breakers are intended mainly for indoor use to provide a degree of protection to dust, dirt, and dripping non-corrosive liquids, oil and lubricants.
NEMA 3R enclosed breakers are constructed for outdoor use which employs a circuit breaker inside a weatherproof sheet steel enclosure to serve as a main disconnect and protective device for feeder circuits. And to provide a degree of protection of the equipment inside the enclosure against ingress of solid foreign objects (falling dirt) and against to the ingress of water (rain).
NEMA 4X enclosures are primarily intended for outdoor use and offer a superior level of protection from corrosion and extreme environments. And to provide a degree of protection against windblown dust, rain, splashing water and hose-directed water.
